Hemorrhoids
What are hemorrhoids?
Hemorrhoids are a condition in which the veins around the rectum
become swollen when stretched under pressure. While hemorrhoids
are not dangerous, they can be very painful.Common causes
• standing or sitting for
extended periods of time
• diarrhea
• constipation
• severe coughing
• childbirth
• heavy lifting
Types of hemorrhoids
Internal – don’t hurt or itch, sometimes causes
bleeding which should be evaluated to rule out a more serious
condition
External – pain, burning, itching, bleeding
PPH – Procedure
for Prolapse & Hemorrhoids------
At CCS, surgeons
are offering a new procedure--PPH which is short for Procedure
for Prolapse & Hemorrhoids. This involves a way to uniformly
remove that redundant tissue that forms hemorrhoids. See
below. . .
PPH technique reduces the enlargement of hemorrhoidal tissue
Minimally invasive surgical approach• Less Pain – procedure
is performed above the pain line, affecting fewer nerve endings• Quicker
Recovery – return to work and activities sooner• Fewer
overall complications• Need for less post-operative pain
medication
About the procedure
• Uses a hemorrhoidal circular stapler device
•
Procedure “lifts up” and repositions the tissue.
• Reduces the blood flow to the internal hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids then shrink within 4- 6 weeks after the procedure
and allows the anal tissue to be restored to its original anatomical
position
